With AWS EC2 and CloudWatch, Emirates Accelerates Innovation

Emirates Airlines

Connects with the world. One of the world's most advanced aircraft, on all long-haul connections. With years of experience, Emirates is one of the oldest airlines in the world and an internationally recognized brand that has received numerous awards from aviation industry organizations and media.

The Challenge

In 2017, Emirates Airlines sought to create a pricing platform. They required a solution capable of setting proactive triggers for the price band based on various factors, including fare changes, user-defined custom triggers, volume, value, promotions, and more. They needed worldwide availability and scalability.

Why Amazon Web Services:

Emirates Airlines chose Amazon Web Services (AWS) with Flynava to leverage cloud benefits for application creation, deployment, and management. Scalability was critical, especially during ticket-price promotions when website and application traffic surged. Flynava collaborated in implementing the solution.

Key Components:

  • Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) for web front-end, integration, business logic services.
  • MongoDB for flight network search engine, profiles, promotions, and booking data.
  • Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for storing front-end content and backups.
  • Amazon CloudFront for fast provisioning of cached and dynamic content.
  • Amazon CloudWatch for monitoring functionality.

The Benefits

Emirates Airlines’s mobile solution empowers passengers to plan journeys, book tickets, and check flight statuses quickly and easily, anytime and anywhere. This improved sales and customer satisfaction. New technologies optimized IT maintenance costs and provided flexibility to offer new functionalities.

The application’s design, creation, and deployment took about six months. The cloud infrastructure and AWS services ensured fast, reliable performance regardless of user quantity or location. AWS also facilitated expansion of e-commerce and mobile services.

Benefits of AWS:

  • Handles high-traffic periods with ease.
  • Reduced operational costs by 40%.
